Saving the Bankrupt Villain
I spent three years as Grayson Vance's mistress.
He always talked about wanting a child. I refused, telling him I was committed to a child-free life.
Then Grayson's empire crumbled. Lost and hopeless, he decided to end it all by jumping from a rooftop.
I just shoved a kid toward him and said, Hold your horses. You have a daughter.
Grayson stared, utterly bewildered. "Let me get this straight... we've been together three years, and our child is already four?"
But seeing the little girl sobbing uncontrollably, he still stumbled down from the ledge, flustered and trying to comfort her.
When he heard she was being picked on at kindergarten, he snatched up a baseball bat and stormed the place.
When he heard she was being picked on at kindergarten, he snatched up a baseball bat and stormed the place.
When he learned she had a crush on some little punk in her class, he lost a whole night's sleep, sick with worry.
I asked him with a smile, "Still thinking about jumping?"
Grayson whipped the cream so fast his hand was a blur,
"Cici said she wants cake tonight. Do you want mango or strawberry?"
After I transmigrated into this novel, I became the villain's throwaway mistress.
My first instinct was to run for the hills.
But Grayson was just... ridiculously handsome.
Broad shoulders, a narrow waist, and muscles in all the right places.
He had a sharply defined jaw and cheekbones that could cut glassbetter looking than any celebrity I'd ever seen.
A man that beautiful only comes along once in a lifetime.
So, in a moment of poor judgment, I ended up in bed with him.
It started with his looks, but I quickly learned his other... talents were just as exceptional.
The experience was beyond words.
So, even though I knew his bankruptcy in three years was inevitable, I stayed.
I played the part of the gold-digging mistress to perfection.
I sweet-talked him into buying me handbags, gold jewelry, real estateanything I could convert into cash.
My plan was simple, the moment Grayson went bankrupt, I'd take my nine-figure bank balance and disappear.
That kind of money would set me up for life.
But I was too naive.
The villain was, predictably, unhinged. His thoughtsprocess was a mystery.
He actually asked me to have his baby.
Grayson brought it up one night in bed.
We had just used the last of the bulk condoms I'd insisted on buying.
His Adam's apple bobbed as he pulled me close, his kisses trailing along my skin as he murmured,
"Sophie, let's have a baby."
I was already dizzy from his touch, but that jolted me right back to reality.
Have a child for the villain?
He was facing financial ruin. I didn't want a child growing up without a father.
Feeling him press forward, I put a hand on his chest, "Don't," I blurted out.
He was patient, nuzzling my collarbone, his voice rough, "Why not?"
I couldn't tell the truth, so I made up a reason on the spot,"Because I don't want children. I never have."
"Let's just be happy together, the two of us. Please don't ask this of me, okay?"
Grayson ran a hand through my hair, glancing down at his own obvious predicament with a frustrated smile. "Alright, I won't force you."
"I'll have more condoms delivered. We'll continue then."
Even after my rejection, he was incredibly gentle that night, always checking in, always making sure I was okay.
"You mentioned wanting that two-hundred-thousand-dollar bag a few days ago. I had it bought for you."
"And I got you a couple of gold necklaces. If you think they're gaudy, just toss them. I'll find you something better."
He whispered this between fervent kisses, his skin damp with sweat.
The care he showed was almost unbearable.
So considerate I almost felt like I was falling for him.
I gritted my teeth, forcefully suppressing that thought.
Ever since arriving in this world, I had tried to alter the original plot.
But I discovered it was pointless, the plot was set in stone.
In other words, Grayson's downfall was his destiny.
I refused to fall in love with a tragic figure and share his ruin.
I consistently played the role of the mistress, staying by Grayson's side for a full three years.
Right on schedule, just like the book said, the male lead destroyed him, amd Grayson lost everything.
Before I could even suggest we part ways, he beat me to it.
He took the expensive watch from his wrist and pressed it into my hand.
"Sell it. It should be worth something."
Then he gave me a debit card,"After settling all the debts, there's 0-0907.68 left inside. It's all yours."
"Sophie, it's over. You're free."
Even broke like this, he gave me the last scraps he had. That was way too considerate.
In the original book, Grayson's storyline just faded to black after bankruptcy, hinting only at a tragic end.
But I never imagined "tragic end" meant he'd actually try to jump off a building.
I overheard Grayson's plan to end his life.
I heard him tell a friend he was going to do it.
The friend asked, "What about Sophie? If you're gone, what will happen to her?"
"Over the years, I gave her everything she wanted. She must have accumulated millions by now. Enough for her to live comfortably for the rest of her life."
The friend still tried to use me to change his mind, "You can't think like that."
"Sophie might have some money now, but if you're gone, imagine how heartbroken she'll be. Crying every day. Could you live with that?"
After a moment of silence, Grayson let out a soft, bitter laugh. The dim light cast shadows across his downcast face.
"She won't."
"Sophie doesn't love me. She was only with me for the money. Actually, she planned to leave me from the very beginning."
The friend was stunned. So was I.
I thought I'd hidden my schemes well, but he'd seen through me all along?
The friend couldn't help but ask, "Then why did you stay with her?"
Grayson answered without hesitation, "Because I love her."
"Wanting a better life is human nature. I'm just glad I was able to give her what she wanted while I could."
Even while planning his suicide, he didn't forget to tell his friend, "Sophie has a bit of a temper. If she ever gets into trouble later, for old times' sake, look out for her."
I stood outside the door, fighting back tears.
Damn this hopelessly romantic villain.
He made me look like the heartless one.
And he didn't understand me at all.
It wasn't just his money I wantedI wanted his looks too.
I thought I could calmly watch him meet his destined end, but when it came down to it, I found I couldn't be that cruel.
That night, Grayson returned to the villa we shared.
By tomorrow, this place would be sold.
Inside, my luggage was already packed and gone.
He lay on the sofa, looking at the empty house with desolate eyes, and sent me another transfer.
"Found another $306.23 in a different accound. Take it."
"Sophie, wherever you go, be safe."
He thought I'd already flown the coop.
Seriously, even mistresses have hearts!
I glanced at my phone, took off my coat to reveal the little black dress underneath, and opened the villa door.
