The False Savior And The Luna's Death
The day I entered the Silver Moon Packs territory, Alaric, the Alpha, held me so tight his eyes turned bloodshot.
He whispered, I have never forgotten how you saved my life. I have spent ten years searching for you.
From that moment on, I became his world. He showered me with all the luxury a Luna could desire, holding me at the very center of his heart.
I stayed by his side for ten long years.
Until one day, he brought back a woman who shared my face.
He claimed she was his true soulmate, the girl from his past.
Because of you, we lost ten years together. Seraphina suffered so much while you took her place, he spat.
On the day of her coronation as the new Luna, I was thrown into the Shadow Dungeon.
Eventually, he remembered the truth and came back for me.
But by then, I was already taking my final breath.
1.
Everyone in the Sterling Pack knew I was Alarics most cherished mate. He had even kept the position of Luna vacant just for me, refusing to take anyone else.
But this morning, after the pack meeting, he didn't come to our bedroom to kiss me as usual. Instead, he brought back a woman who looked strikingly like me.
She was his long-lost savior, Seraphina Ross.
Although our faces were similar, her every move was filled with a fragile, delicate grace that made men want to protect her.
The entire pack began to whisper. They thought Alaric was bored of me and that his love was about to shift.
Rumor had it that Seraphina was the one who had actually saved Alarics life when he was young.
Back then, Alaric was an unranked omega, an outcast who had been chased out of his territory. He had been robbed of everything and beaten nearly to death by rogues.
On a freezing winter night, his limbs were numb, and he was on the verge of death.
It was Seraphina who supposedly gave him a bowl of warm stew and wrapped him in thick furs, melting the despair in his frozen heart.
Ever since he became Alpha, he had been searching for her. He claimed he had found me by mistake.
I stayed silent when I heard the stories.
I truly couldn't remember anything before the age of ten. When Alaric claimed I was his childhood savior and brought me to the pack house, I simply believed him.
To recover my lost memories, I went to see Elara, the packs head healer.
She was my closest friend. She had joined the packs medical team specifically to help me treat my amnesia.
Elara had warned me many times that the mind is fragile. Forcing memories back with herbs and silver needles could destroy my very foundation.
But now, I didn't care about the risk.
The needles were agonizing, and the medicine was bitter. Thankfully, today was the final session.
Through a splitting headache, images began to flash before my eyes like a movie.
I saw it clearly. I was the one who had brought Alaric home and saved him from the snow.
Alaric hadn't made a mistake in the beginning. I was his true savior.
The fraud was Seraphina!
I wanted to find Alaric immediately to tell him the truth. I needed to warn him about the woman he had brought into our home.
But halfway there, I was blocked.
It was Seraphina. She stood there, arms crossed, looking down at me with a sneer.
She was draped in gold jewelry and fine silks, all gifts from Alaric. She looked more like a Luna than I ever did.
No wonder everyone said the Alphas favorite was changing.
Seraphina used a long, decorative pin to lift my chin. Her face was full of arrogance and hidden threats.
This face really does look like mine, she said.
But a fake pearl will never become the real thing, no matter how hard it tries.
Her cold fingers pinched my cheek. Her long, sharp nails dug into my skin, causing a dull ache.
Her eyes were filled with the triumph of a victor.
You lost, Evie. You dared to impersonate me. The Alpha will never forgive you for that.
Her behavior was disgusting. I couldn't understand how Alaric could ever link this cruel woman to the kind girl I used to be.
I didn't want to waste time on her. I just wanted to find Alaric and set everything right.
But Seraphina wouldn't let me go. she grabbed my collar and threw me back with surprising strength.
My back slammed against the cold stone wall of the hallway. Pain flared, and tears pricked my eyes.
Then, her annoying voice rang out from above me.
Did I say you could leave? If you know whats good for you, youll hand over the Lunas signet ring right now!
Who did she think she was? The nerve of her to demand the packs highest symbol of authority!
Anger surged through me. I pushed her away with all my might.
Get away from me! Don't you dare touch me!
Seraphina didn't expect me to fight back. She froze for a second, then immediately dropped to the floor.
She began to sob as if she were a trampled flower. She made it look like I was the one bullying her.
Sister, I only wanted to ask for a small memento. Why are you so angry?
The Alpha will be furious when he hears about this!
A memento? Alarics anger?
I couldn't believe the lies coming out of her mouth.
I actually wanted to see if Alaric would truly turn on me for the sake of this fake.
I tried to walk around her, but a dark shadow flashed past me. A scent of sandalwood and rain filled the air.
It was Alaric.
He rushed to pick up the weeping Seraphina, cradling her as if she were a priceless treasure. He whispered sweet, comforting words to her.
Seraphina, don't cry. Im here.
He ignored me completely. I felt like a stranger in my own home.
Only as he was leaving did he spare me a cold, hateful glance.
If anything happens to Seraphina, you will pay the price!
In his arms, Seraphina shot me a mocking, wicked smile.
The beautiful life we had shared shattered in an instant. I felt like I had been dropped into a lake of ice.
2.
Since that day, Alaric had me locked in my quarters. He refused to see me.
I desperately wanted to tell him that I was the one who had saved him.
I wanted him to know Seraphina was a liar.
But I never got the chance.
Bored and lonely, I spent my time handling pack business from my room, just as I always had.
But things were different now. The servants were experts at sensing which way the wind blew.
They saw I had lost my Alphas favor, so they stopped respecting my orders.
They were all busy sucking up to Seraphina now.
When Alaric loved me, I could have asked for the moon and they would have tried to catch it. Now, I was nothing.
I sighed and picked up a pair of knee pads I was embroidering.
Alaric had injured his leg during a hunt recently. Elara told me that sewing certain healing herbs into the lining would help him recover faster.
Loud noises came from outside. A moment later, Alaric stormed in with a dark expression.
I was startled, and the needle pierced my finger. A bright drop of blood blossomed on my skin.
In the past, Alaric would have panicked if I had even lost a strand of hair.
But now, he looked at my bleeding finger with total indifference.
Memories of the past few days flooded my mind. I felt a wave of bitterness and looked at him pitifully.
Alaric, that woman is a fraud. She
I expected to fix everything once I told him the truth.
But I didn't get a hug or a comforting word. Instead, I got a hard slap across my face.
Shut up!
I held my burning cheek and stared at him in disbelief. Tears began to flow uncontrollably.
Alaric was still shaking with rage. You knew she was my savior, yet you dared to hurt her. Even now, you show no remorse and try to frame her!
When did you become so selfish and jealous?
I could hardly believe what I was hearing.
Alaric was the one who had begged me to be his mate. Back then, when I got jealous of other pack girls, he would laugh and say he loved it because it meant I cared.
He had promised me that I was the only woman for him. He had even sent away any potential rivals.
The change in him was devastating. I wiped my tears, but they wouldn't stop.
Perhaps my expression was too heartbreaking, because a flash of hesitation crossed his eyes. But he quickly turned cold again.
Evie, listen to me. Go to Seraphina and apologize.
Anger flared in my chest at those words.
Why should I apologize to that thief?
She was the one who stole my life.
I won't!
Alarics eyes turned icy. He signaled to two female guards to step forward.
They muttered a quick apology before grabbing my arms and holding me tight.
Evie, Seraphina suffered for years while you lived in luxury. I have to make it up to her.
The life youve enjoyed belongs to her. Its only right that I take it back.
From now on, you will not refuse any request she makes!
Alaric snatched the Lunas signet ring from my finger. He left without looking back.
My tears hit the floor like rain. Alaric didn't turn around once.
Alaric, you are breaking my heart into pieces.
When you finally learn the truth, will you even be able to live with yourself?
3.
With the signet ring gone, everyone knew I was officially powerless.
My once-busy quarters became as silent as a graveyard. The servants were all scrambling to leave and find work with the new favorite.
I knew many people were waiting to laugh at my downfall.
Look at her now. She used to be so high and mighty, and now shes just waiting to be kicked out!
Alaric had protected me so well that I used to think I was fearless. I never knew how much words could hurt.
Now, I was afraid.
I was afraid of hearing how much Alaric loved Seraphina. I was afraid of the long, lonely nights. Mostly, I was afraid he truly didn't want me anymore.
The servants avoided me like I had the plague.
Only Elara still came to see me. She told me she could arrange for me to escape the pack territory. She asked if I wanted to leave.
I told her no.
I wasn't ready to give up yet.
However, my health was failing fast.
I grew paler and weaker every day. I eventually became so frail that I couldn't even leave my bed.
Then, one morning, I coughed up a thick spray of blood.
Elara checked my pulse. I felt her fingers trembling against my wrist.
Her voice cracked as she spoke. Your pulse is too weak. Your lifeforce is drained You don't have much time left.
I had suspected as much, so I wasn't surprised.
How long? I asked softly.
Elaras hot tears fell onto my hand. If everything goes perfectly, maybe six months. But if you keep stressing your heart and soul you won't last a month.
I let out a dry laugh. What was the point of hoping for perfection?
A month. It would be over in the blink of an eye.
I never got to see the world beyond these borders. Now, I was going to die in this small, miserable room.
Elaras eyes were red. Its because of those memory spells. They took too much out of you. And Alarics cruelty is finishing the job.
I just wanted to find the memories that belonged to us. I wanted to feel that pure, childhood love again.
So, I didn't regret it.
I took her hand and forced a smile. Look at you, getting all worked up. I still have a month. Maybe a miracle will happen.
Suddenly, Seraphina walked in, looking as proud as a peacock.
Beside her was Alaric, looking completely under her spell.
They must have heard that I was confined to my bed.
What about a month? Alaric frowned, noticing how thin I had become. I heard you were sick?
Seraphina immediately pulled his attention back to her. She hugged his arm and pouted.
Alaric, Evie is just using every trick to get you to visit. She even roped the pack healer into her little drama!
She was accusing me of faking it with Elaras help.
Sure enough, Alarics gaze turned cold.
Youre right. She was fine a few days ago. How could she suddenly be dying?
Seraphina gave me a wicked, knowing smile. Ive heard Elara is a genius healer. Ive been feeling so weak from my years of suffering. I need someone to look after me.
Alaric, make Elara my personal physician. Please!
I stared at Alaric, praying he would say no.
But I was wrong. She was his precious savior, and he would give her anything she wanted.
I felt a sharp, stabbing pain in my chest.
Alaric, you know Elara and I grew up together. Shes the only friend I have left. I cant lose her. I begged with my eyes.
But Alaric turned his head away, refusing to look at me.
He didn't care about me anymore. Why would he care about a healer as long as Seraphina was happy?
But Elara was my sister in spirit. If Seraphina took her, she would take all her hatred for me out on Elara.
Elara would be tortured.
I had intended to wait for the truth to come out and make Alaric beg for my forgiveness.
But now, I had to swallow my pride. I begged him piteously. Alaric, please. Don't take Elara away from me.
I used the intimate name I used to call him, hoping to spark some old memory of love.
Alaric saw my broken pride, and his expression softened for a split second.
But then he turned his back on me again.
Evie, I told you. You cannot refuse Seraphinas requests.
You owe her this much.
He left with Seraphina and their followers, as if he were afraid he might actually feel sorry for me if he stayed.
I lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, letting the salt of my tears sting my lips.
4.
I was right. Seraphina had no intention of being kind to Elara.
The next time I saw my friend, her body was covered in bruises.
Seraphina was lashing her with a whip, venting her rage.
You filthy servant! How dare you try to poison my food!
Guards! Drag her to the silver cages! Strip the skin off her back!
I knew Elara. She came from a family of healers. She was too kind to hurt a fly. Even if she hated Seraphina, she would never resort to poison.
I used every ounce of strength I had to run to her. I shielded Elara with my own body and glared at the crowd.
I want to see who dares to touch her!
Seraphina smirked when she saw me. She looked down at me with pure disdain.
Look who it is. The little thief who stole my life!
Do you really think youre still the lady of this house? The Alpha is only being merciful. Soon, youll realize youre lower than the dirt under my boots!
The audacity of this liar!
Elara was barely breathing in my arms.
Be careful she whispered. She wants to kill me to keep her secret. Youre next.
Just as she said it, Alaric marched toward us. He immediately pulled Seraphina behind him to protect her.
Once again, I was the villain in his eyes.
Alaric was fuming. He shoved me away with brutal force.
You monster! Haven't I been kind enough to you? You actually tried to poison the woman I love!
Guards! Execute Elara Moonbrook immediately!
Two strong warriors grabbed Elara. A silver blade pierced through her chest. Blood instantly soaked her white healers robes.
No! I screamed, my heart shattering. I crawled to Elaras cooling body and held her tight.
Alaric covered Seraphinas eyes to protect her from the sight, but he watched my breakdown with total indifference.
Seraphina, meanwhile, could barely hide her grin.
This was all because of that lying fraud!
Rage blinded me. I lunged at Seraphina and wrapped my hands around her throat.
By the time the guards pulled me off, Seraphina was gasping for air, acting like a terrified rabbit.
Alaric Im so scared!
Alaric gently rubbed her back, looking at me like I was a piece of trash.
Evangeline Blackwood, for your jealousy and your murderous heart, you are stripped of your rank. You are banished to the Shadow Dungeon!
At his command, several old omegas dragged me toward the darkest part of the pack territory.
As I passed Alaric, he said coldly, Tomorrow is Seraphinas coronation as Luna. Stay in your hole and don't cause trouble.
I felt like I had been submerged in a frozen lake. The cold seeped into my bones, making me shiver violently.
I was the one who saved you I whispered.
But I was too weak. My words were lost to the wind.
The Shadow Dungeon was exactly what it sounded like: gray, decaying, and freezing.
My body couldn't handle the damp air. I lost consciousness almost immediately.
When I woke up, I saw a familiar face. It was Milo, Elaras young apprentice. He was looking at me with deep concern.
He noticed I was awake and his eyes widened.
My lady, your fever is dangerously high I have to tell the Alpha!
I wanted to tell him not to bother. Alaric didn't care if I lived or died.
But my eyelids felt heavy again. His voice faded as he ran away.
When I woke up a second time, Alaric was there.
His tone was mocking. What kind of game are you playing now?
