The Wedding Night Secret
On my wedding night, Fiona Lang brought home a young boy and a man.
She looked at me and said, This is my first love. We have a son together. From now on, we will all live here in harmony.
Besides, someone needs to take care of a cripple like you.
I looked down at my paralyzed legs and felt a bitter surge of irony.
She seemed to have forgotten that I lost the use of my legs for her sake.
Later, I left without saying a word. She came crawling back, apologizing and begging me to return.
1.
"Fiona, do you even realize what you are saying?"
I stared at Fiona in disbelief. This was the woman I had loved for five years, the woman who had officially become my wife just this morning.
Standing beside her were her first love, Garen Knight, and a young boy.
Just a moment ago, she told me the boy was her son with Garen.
The child looked about four years old. That meant she was already pregnant when she first got together with me.
My hands gripped the armrests of my wheelchair so hard they shook.
"Are you deaf? How many times do I have to repeat myself?"
Fiona glared at me, her expression full of annoyance.
"I'm telling you the way it is. We are going to live together peacefully."
"In fact, you should be grateful. A cripple like you finally has people to look after him."
"Silas, don't worry. I'll take good care of you," Garen added.
He looked at me with a fake, friendly smile that made my skin crawl.
"By the way, my son's name is Gus. He'll help take care of you too."
This was insane. Did she think we were living in some twisted era of concubines and secret families?
She was my wife, and yet she expected me to share her with another man in my own home.
Anger and grief burned in my chest like a wildfire.
Tonight was supposed to be our wedding night, and she gave me this "surprise."
It was beyond disgusting.
"Fiona, I want a divorce."
I never imagined that on the very day we wed, I would be the one demanding an end to it.
But who could endure this?
My brand-new wife had a secret son and a secret lover, and she expected me to play house with them.
"Divorce?"
Fiona let out a sharp, mocking laugh.
"Silas Vance, have you forgotten that you're a cripple? Where would you go without me?"
"I suggest you stay in line. Stay home, cook, and do the laundry."
"Now you have people to share the chores with. You should be happy!"
Happy my ass.
I almost screamed the words at her.
But I forced myself to stay calm.
"Fiona, I will never accept this."
"We are going to the lawyer tomorrow."
In the past, I was like a loyal dog at Fiona's feet.
I never dared to speak to her so coldly.
I certainly never would have mentioned leaving her.
"You're nothing without me!"
Fiona leaned down and patted my cheek mockingly.
"Don't think you can threaten me with a divorce."
"If you've got the guts, get out of this house right now and never come back."
"Fine."
If this were yesterday, I would have begged her to let me stay.
I loved her so much that I thought I couldn't breathe without her.
But now, she had shattered my heart into a million jagged pieces.
I looked around the house, decorated with wedding ribbons and flowers.
I had spent so much effort planning this wedding, practically begging her to marry me.
Now, I regretted every single second of it.
I turned my wheelchair and headed straight for the door.
Behind me, I heard Garen's worried voice. "Fiona, Silas can't walk. Is it really okay to let him leave like this?"
Fiona snorted. "He'll be back in an hour. He's a total simp. He can't survive without me."
2.
Fiona was certain I wouldn't leave.
It made sense for her to think that way.
Everyone knew I was head over heels for her.
She was a wealthy socialite, and I was just a poor guy. People thought I had won the lottery by being with her.
Once, after a fight, I stayed at a friend's place.
My friend even lectured me. "Fiona is out of your league. It's normal for her to have a temper. Don't be so sensitive."
Everyone believed that as long as Fiona was willing to be with me, I should overlook any mistake she made.
They thought I should just shut up and be grateful.
But I didn't want her money or her status.
I was with her for love.
We were college classmates. Back then, she had survived a traumatic assault attempt that left her depressed and silent.
I spent every waking moment helping her out of that darkness until she smiled again.
During that time, she was incredibly dependent on me.
She wouldn't go anywhere without me by her side.
She used to say, "Silas, you're my only cure. Without you, I'd die."
After graduation, we moved in together.
One Valentine's Day, we went out for dinner.
The man who had tried to hurt her years ago had been released from prison and came back for revenge.
I shielded her with my body, taking a brutal beating in her place.
My legs were crushed and broken under his boots.
I fainted from the pain and woke up in a hospital bed to the news that I would never walk again.
Fiona sat by my bed, tears streaming down her face. "Silas, I'm so sorry. This is all my fault. I promise I'll take care of you forever."
Losing my legs destroyed me.
But her promise gave me a reason to keep living.
I believed her with everything I had.
But within a month, she started coming home late. She started sleeping in a separate room.
She claimed she was afraid of kicking me in her sleep and making my injuries worse.
I believed her then. Now I knew the truth.
She had started loathing me the moment I became useless to her.
3.
I checked into a hotel by myself.
As soon as I got to my room, I saw a trending post on social media.
A paparazzi had snapped photos of Fiona at an elite private school with Garen and Gus.
The caption read: "Famous singer Fiona Lang spotted with secret husband and child at school registration."
Fiona wasn't just wealthy; she was a superstar singer known across the country.
Because of her career, she had never officially gone public with our relationship.
The world thought she was a single bachelorette.
Then, I saw Fiona herself post a clarification on her official account.
"It's true. I have a husband and a child. I love them very much."
At that moment, it felt like a thousand needles were piercing my heart.
We had been together for five years, and she had spent every single day lying to me.
My phone rang. It was my friend.
"Did you fight with Fiona again? She just called asking if you were here."
"Look, man, just go home. Don't be petty."
"You need her to pay your bills. Don't bite the hand that feeds you."
Everyone thought I had to worship her just to survive.
But a relationship should be between equals. A healthy romance isn't built on one person's total submission.
Besides, I could never accept her raising a secret child behind my back.
I hung up on him. I didn't need friends like that.
The next morning, Fiona sent me a text. "We're going to my parents' house today."
I couldn't believe she could act like nothing had happened.
But it worked out. I needed to go there to make the divorce official in front of her family.
I replied, telling her I would take an Uber there myself.
4.
When I arrived at the Lang estate, Fiona was just pulling up. She had Garen and Gus with her.
Garen was carrying her bags and gifts, while she held Gus's hand.
They looked like a perfect family. I was just an intruder.
"See, Garen? I knew he'd come crawling back," Fiona said, glancing at me with contempt.
"You're visiting my parents and didn't even bring a gift?"
"This is our first visit as a married couple, and I'm introducing my son to them today."
"This is an important day. Why are you so useless?"
I looked at her and realized I didn't recognize the woman in front of me.
She used to be my world. Now, she just made me feel sick.
"I'm not here to visit your parents."
I pushed my wheelchair past her and went inside.
As soon as I entered, Fiona's father gave me a look of pure disgust.
"Looking at this cripple just ruins my mood!"
But a second later, he broke into a wide grin looking past me.
"Garen! You're back."
"You and Fiona always were a better match. If only she hadn't married"
"Dad," Fiona interrupted.
"Garen is living with us now."
"I've decided that Silas and Garen will live together in harmony."
Fiona's father didn't look shocked at all. He just laughed. "That works. Garen treats you well anyway. Two men to serve you is better than one."
I felt like vomiting. This whole family was morally bankrupt.
Garen jumped at the chance to show off, handing a gift to Mr. Lang. "Sir, I brought this premium tea and these supplements from overseas for you."
"Thank you, Garen. You're so thoughtful. Unlike some people who show up empty-handed despite being a burden."
Mr. Lang glared at me again. Fiona didn't say a single word to defend me.
She just took Gus to the sofa to eat fruit.
In the Lang house, no one liked me, and no one respected me.
Even the housekeeper barked at me. "Move it! You're blocking the floor. This wheelchair is so annoying!"
Fiona heard her, but she didn't react.
She just looked at me coldly. "Don't just sit there. Go to the kitchen and help with dinner."
Then she turned sweetly to Garen. "Garen, you relax. I'll have the cook make your favorite dishes."
On the way over, I had been hesitant.
We had been together for years, after all.
I had wondered if I should really do this in front of her parents.
But now, all my doubts were gone.
Her family hated me, and she despised me. Why should I stay and be her punching bag?
I rolled my wheelchair into the center of the room.
"I am divorcing Fiona."
"Here are the papers."
I pulled the divorce agreement out of my bag and held it out.
Everyone froze.
In their eyes, I was a pathetic loser who would never dream of leaving Fiona.
5.
Fiona's eyes widened in shock. She snatched the papers and scanned them.
Mr. Lang sneered. "Fine by me! You think we want a cripple for a son-in-law?"
Gus clapped his hands. "Mom, hurry up and divorce the broken man so we can be a real family!"
Mr. Lang looked surprised. "This child is Garen's?"
Garen answered quickly, "Yes, sir. Fiona and I have always been in love."
He looked at Fiona, clearly hoping she would confirm his words.
But Fiona was staring at the papers, her eyes burning with rage.
"So you're using divorce to threaten me now?"
"I'm telling you, Silas, I'm not falling for it."
"You want a divorce? Fine. But you have to pay back every cent I've spent on you for the last two years!"
I clenched my fists.
It was true she had spent money on my medical bills, but all the money I had earned before the accident was in her accounts too.
It was more than enough to cover my expenses.
Now she was using money to trap me.
I didn't understand. She clearly preferred Garen, so why wouldn't she let me go?
"No money, right?" Fiona stepped closer, a smirk playing on her lips.
"If you can't pay, go back home and be a good little house-husband."
"As long as you don't annoy me, I'll keep you fed."
"I'll pay you every dime."
Did she think that because I was paralyzed, I had lost my ability to make a living?
She burst out laughing. "And how will you do that?"
"Scrounging for scraps? Or selling yourself?"
"Actually, with those dead legs, I doubt anyone would pay a dollar for you."
The woman who once swore to love me forever was now spitting poison at me.
My heart finally turned to ash.
"It doesn't matter how I get the money. I'll calculate everything and wire it to you within a week."
I turned to leave, but Fiona grabbed my arm.
"You're not going anywhere. We aren't divorced yet, and you stay where I can see you."
"What? So I can watch you play happy family with Garen?"
The irony was unbearable. I was the legal husband, yet I felt like the mistress.
Fiona didn't answer, but she held on tight.
Finally, she had her bodyguards forcibly take me back to our house and lock me in the bedroom.
I couldn't believe she was actually imprisoning me.
I pounded on the door, but she wouldn't let me out.
I could hear her laughing with Garen and Gus in the hallway.
I knew I had to escape.
Luckily, back in college, a friend had taught me how to pick locks as a joke.
That night, I picked the lock and prepared to slip away.
But as I passed Garen's room, I heard muffled, suggestive sounds.
The door wasn't fully closed. Through the crack, I saw Fiona in Garen's arms.
Fiona's face was flushed, her eyes hazy with lust.
"Garen, you're so much stronger than that cripple."
I stood frozen, the blood in my veins turning to ice.
We hadn't even been married for three days, and she was already throwing this in my face.
I was done being patient.
I pulled out my phone, recorded a video of them, and left.
The next morning, I uploaded the video to the internet.
Fiona was a star. Reputation was everything to her. If I couldn't get a divorce legally, I would use public scandal to force her hand.
Fiona's call came through almost instantly. She sounded hysterical. "You filmed that, didn't you? Are you insane? You're going to ruin me!"
