My Husband Wants My Land For His Mistress
Three years after my Alpha husband died, I went to his grave to pay my respects.
I was shocked to find that his name wasn't even on the royal headstone.
I stormed into the pack's Great Hall, demanding an explanation from the King.
King Alaric sighed, looking at me with a mix of pity and exhaustion.
"Lyra, Silas isn't buried there. Before he died, he gave up all his war honors just to stay out of the royal crypt."
"He told me that he and Chloe had already missed out on a lifetime together. He didn't want to miss her again on the way to the afterlife."
Chloe. That was the woman whose name Silas had whispered every single night for fifteen years.
When I opened my eyes again, I was back on the day Silas returned from the war in glory.
This time, I didn't cling to him. I agreed to the divorce he wanted and volunteered to be the bride sent to the Shadow Moon Kingdom.
In that land, I would build a trade empire and start a path that would save thousands.
I had been resting in the manor for three days. Even the King remembered to send me rare herbs to help me recover.
But Silas, who had just returned to the city, hadn't come to see me once.
He had been gone for three years. I had gone to the city gates to welcome him with a heart full of joy.
Instead, one of his soldiers knocked me to the ground. The man didn't even look sorry when he apologized.
Silas didn't care about me at all. He spent the whole time comforting Chloe right in front of my face.
He didn't show up once during the three days I was healing.
"Luna, the Alpha is back," my maid whispered.
I waved my hand, telling her to leave.
Silas walked in and glanced at my messy desk and my unbrushed hair. He looked disgusted.
"You are a high-ranking lady. I've been gone for three years, and you're acting this lazy? You haven't even touched the pack's business."
He didn't even look at my bandaged ankle. He just started yelling.
I looked at him and kept flipping through my book. "If you want to blame me, you should think about why I'm like this," I said calmly.
He finally looked at my foot. His voice lost some of its edge, but he still sounded annoyed.
"My soldier was clumsy the other day. I already punished him. It won't happen again."
I arched an eyebrow. I was surprised he was even trying to be nice.
A few days ago, he didn't even look at me when I was lying on the ground. He had walked straight to Chloe to joke around with her.
He picked up a bottle of medicine and tried to apply it to my skin.
I moved my leg away. He froze.
"The healer will do it," I said.
In the past, he would have left with a cold face. This time, he actually smiled.
"Right. I'm too rough. I wouldn't want to hurt you again."
"By the way, look at this. I bought it from the Western territories. It suits you."
He pulled out a silver hair pin and tried to tuck it into my hair.
I touched the pin. It was made of rare moonlight stone.
In my past life, I begged him for gifts many times. He always ignored me.
In this life, I simply stopped bothering him and Chloe, and now he was giving me what I wanted.
If this were my past life, I would have been overjoyed. Now, I felt absolutely nothing.
I took the pin out and set it aside.
"Thank you for the thought, Alpha. If there's nothing else, please leave."
Silas was stunned. His eyes widened with anger.
His look said, "I lowered myself to see you, don't be ungrateful."
But he suppressed his rage and tried to sound soft.
"Lyra, I heard the King gave you a new territory. But that place is Chloe's hometown. Could you give it to her?"
"The King loves you. If you ask him, I'm sure he will agree."
My eyes went dark. So that was why he was being nice. He wanted something for his mistress.
"I'm old enough to leave the palace. If I give away my land, I'll have nowhere to go."
I crossed my arms and looked at him with a smirk.
He immediately lost his patience.
"Stop being difficult! I already failed Chloe by marrying you. She followed me here and has no one."
"Even if you give her the land, the King won't let you suffer. As my wife, you should take care of her. As a princess, you should be generous to the people."
He was willing to offend the King just to get Chloe a reward. No wonder they were buried together in my last life.
I laughed.
"If you have such a good reason, go ask the King yourself. Don't bother me."
Seeing that I wouldn't budge, he clenched his fists.
"A princess with no heart... you'll get what's coming to you!"
He slammed the door so hard the wind chimes rattled in a way that made my head hurt.
After that fight, he left the palace grounds.
The King came to see me later. He wasn't surprised that Silas was missing.
He started talking about the political marriage with the Shadow Moon Kingdom.
"The Shadow Moon Kingdom is powerful. We can't win a war against them. It's time for a marriage alliance."
I remembered what happened in my last life. The younger princess was supposed to go, but she ran away.
That move made the Shadow Moon Alpha furious. We lost three cities just to stop the war.
In the years after that, the Shadow Moon Kingdom became a superpower.
Their land was vast, their people were fed, and their culture was booming.
I tapped my fingers on the table, thinking deeply.
A month later, the autumn hunt began. That was when I saw Silas and Chloe sharing a carriage.
In my last life, I was too proud to let them meet. They had to hide back then.
In this life, I didn't care, so they grew bold. They forgot their place.
They were flirting and laughing. Silas even put his hand on her waist without thinking.
Anyone watching would think they were the married couple.
Chloe saw me watching. She immediately leaned into Silas's chest, acting weak.
"Silas, I feel a bit dizzy. I'm so glad you're here to catch me."
"Oh, the Princess is here! Silas said you'd definitely beg him to come back to the palace. He's been staying at my place, but you never showed up. I've been teasing him about it for days!"
Silas looked a bit uncomfortable as I walked over.
But he didn't let go of her waist.
"You're too late if you came to find me. I promised to stay with Chloe. A gentleman never breaks his word."
I smiled thinly. There wasn't a single spark of jealousy in my eyes.
"The fact that I didn't look for you means I don't need you."
Silas frowned. He thought I was just acting out. He let go of Chloe and stepped toward me.
"I'll look after you so you don't get hurt. Just do what I say."
I felt disgusted and turned to leave.
He grabbed my sleeve, stopping me. His face was full of annoyance.
"I said I'd protect you. Are you really going to go cry to the King again? It's pathetic."
While we were arguing, no one noticed a wild, rabid beast charging at us from the woods.
By the time I saw it, Silas had already pushed me right into the beast's path.
His instinct was to grab Chloe and run to safety.
The beast slammed into me with incredible force. I coughed up blood instantly.
The guards were fast. They killed the beast before it could finish me off.
Silas realized what he had done and ran back, looking panicked.
"Lyra! Are you okay? Don't be scared, I'll get the doctor."
Just as he picked me up, Chloe let out a fake cough and collapsed to the ground.
I looked at the man as he hesitated. I knew exactly what choice he would make.
Sure enough, he shoved me into a guard's arms.
"I'm sorry, Lyra. Chloe is terrified, and she's naturally weak. I can't leave her."
"Take the Princess to the doctor!"
He ran away as fast as he could. He didn't look back at me once.
That shadow of him running away looked just like the boy who used to run toward me.
We met on the battlefield.
My mother died early, so I had to grow up fast. I didn't want to be bullied in the palace, so I went to the front lines.
It was a hard life. We relied on each other to survive. After the war, he used his merits to marry me.
If I had known he loved someone else so deeply, I would have never let the marriage happen.
I was just a stepping stone for their happiness.
As his figure disappeared, I closed my eyes.
It was all just a bad dream.
As soon as I woke up, the King summoned me.
But when I got to the hall, the head eunuch stopped me.
"Princess, the King wants you to listen from here."
Inside, I heard Silas's voice.
"My King, I have returned in victory. I only ask for the Northwest territory for my sister, Chloe. She took care of me in the camp for three years. Without her, I wouldn't be standing here."
I couldn't believe it. Even after I said no, he still went behind my back to steal my land.
In my last life, Chloe didn't show any gratitude after getting the land. She just mocked me.
A few days ago, I had told my father that the land was mine and I wouldn't give it to anyone.
"That land belongs to Lyra. The whole kingdom knows it. Does she know you're asking for this?" the King asked.
There was a long silence. Silas clearly didn't expect that question.
"She knows," he lied.
I stepped into the hall, my face like ice.
"I do not agree."
I saw Chloe was there too. Even while kneeling, they were leaning against each other.
Chloe's eyes were red. She was tugging at Silas's sleeve and sobbing quietly.
Silas patted her hand gently. Then he looked at me with a warning glare.
I ignored his daggers and looked straight at the King.
"Father, what is mine is mine. I won't give it up."
The King nodded and looked at Silas helplessly.
"General, you know the rules. A princess receives land upon marriage. If she gives it to a woman with no rank, the world will laugh at her. Do not bring this up again."
The King was firm. Silas looked at Chloe. When he saw her crying harder, he seemed to gain a burst of courage.
He held her even tighter. Their intimacy was disgusting.
My heart felt a small sting.
In public, he never wanted to be close to me. If I touched him, he would lecture me for hours about how a princess should set an example.
Now I realized he wasn't shy. He just didn't love me.
Silas's voice snapped me back to reality. He looked at me with pure determination.
"The King said a princess gets land upon marriage. If I divorce her, then she can just stay in the palace, right?"
I stood there, frozen. I couldn't believe he would go that far. Chloe gave me a smug, mocking look.
I clenched my fists so hard my nails drew blood.
I knew what he was going to say next. To save Chloe, he was going to destroy my reputation.
He spoke without a hint of hesitation.
"I have never slept with the Princess. When she was captured during the war, the enemy Alpha took her. She was desecrated. She's been traumatized ever since and refused to fulfill her duties"
"Enough!"
I screamed, cutting him off.
I looked at him, feeling like I had saved a monster.
I was captured because I was covering his retreat. He had promised to protect me forever.
And now, he was throwing my darkest secret to the world just for a nameless woman.
The pain in my chest was suffocating. For the first time, I felt true hatred.
I turned to the King, my eyes hollow.
"I agree to the divorce. But I am keeping the land."
I looked back at Silas with pure disgust.
"Father, in exchange, I will be the one to marry into the Shadow Moon Kingdom."
