My Wife Stole My Inheritance For Maverick

My Wife Stole My Inheritance For Maverick

While my son was recovering from surgery, I was scrolling through a local forum to kill time.

I stumbled upon a thread titled: What is the most depraved thing you have ever done?

An anonymous user had posted a comment that caught my eye.

I used the man who sponsored my education as a stepping stone, it read.

"My benefactor is a total moron with too much money. After he paid for my Ivy League degree, I slept with his wife. Now she's carrying my child."

"The best part? He treats my son like his own flesh and blood. He works day and night just to build a future for my kid."

"By the way, his $3 million inheritance just cleared. My girl is heading to the hospital now to trick him into handing it over for a 'better school district' house."

"Once the cash is ours and the villa is bought, I'll let my son know who his real father is and kick the loser to the curb!"

Attached was a blurry photo of a young boy.

My heart stopped.

The boy in the photo was wearing the exact same custom silver bracelet I had bought for my son.

Right then, the door to the hospital room swung open. My wife, Elena, walked in with a wide smile.

"Silas, Jax is starting school soon. We should use your mother's estate money to buy that condo in the Gold Coast district!"

Elena's eyes were locked on me, shimmering with a greedy desperation she couldn't hide.

I looked at the woman I had shared a bed with for years and felt like I was staring at a stranger.

She noticed my silence and stepped closer. "What's wrong, honey? Are you just exhausted?"

"No," I said, swallowing the bile rising in my throat. I turned to pat Jax on the head.

The six-year-old boy I had raised since birth jerked away. He peered behind Elena, ignoring me completely.

"Mom, where's Uncle Maverick? He promised he'd come see me!"

The coldness in his voice when he spoke to me was unmistakable. Yet, when he mentioned Maverick, he sounded more excited than he ever did with me.

It felt like a serrated blade was twisting in my chest.

"Uncle will be here soon," Elena cooed, soothing him before turning back to me. "So, Silas, about the condo..."

My voice felt dry and brittle. "The apartments in the Gold Coast are over two million. That inheritance won't even cover the down payment and fees. The mortgage would be crushing."

"Oh, Silas, think about the future!" Elena interrupted. "Education is the best investment. Don't worry about the payments. Your firm is doing well, isn't it?"

"But..."

"No buts!" Elena's face hardened. "I'm asking you, Silas. Is money more important than our son's future? Are you really that selfish?"

Those words stung like a physical blow.

For six years, I had given everything to this family. She knew that better than anyone.

Now, she was using my own devotion as a weapon against me.

I gripped the bedsheets, my knuckles white. I was about to snap when the door opened again.

Maverick walked in, carrying a basket of expensive organic fruit. "How's the little champ doing? I was worried sick!"

He walked straight to the other side of the bed. The way he looked at Jax was filled with more genuine affection than I had ever seen from him.

Elena's expression softened instantly. "The surgery was a success, but he's still in pain."

"Surgery is tough," Maverick said, looking at me with a patronizing smirk. "You need to buy him the best supplements, Silas. Don't hold back on the kid."

Before I could respond, he continued as if he owned the room. "By the way, did I hear you guys talking about a new house?"

Elena jumped in. "I was just telling Silas we need to move to the Gold Coast district for Jax, but he's hesitant."

Maverick shook his head in mock disappointment. "Silas, you really should listen to Elena. A boy like Jax needs the best environment. You wouldn't want him to fall behind, would you?"

"Right, Jax?"

Jax's lip trembled as he looked at Maverick. "Uncle Maverick... it hurts..."

"I know, buddy. I'm here." Maverick squeezed his hand. "Your mom wants to get you a big new house near the best school. Wouldn't that be awesome?"

Jax nodded eagerly despite the pain.

Then he looked at me with a glare full of resentment. "Dad, Mom and Uncle Maverick are just trying to help me. Why are you being so mean? My friend Leo's dad sold his car just for his tuition! You only care about your money!"

My heart turned to ash right there in that hospital room.

This was the boy I had raised for six years.

He was spitting on the man who had stayed up every night by his bedside.

Elena looked at me with a smug "I told you so" expression.

Maverick's eyes flashed with a hint of cruel triumph.

The three of them were a perfect little unit.

And I was just the ATM, the obstacle in their way.

The room went silent for a few beats.

Then, I let out a soft, dry laugh.

"You're right," I said.

Elena and Maverick both blinked, surprised by my sudden shift.

I let go of the bedsheets and forced a calm smile. "Jax's future is what matters most."

Elena's eyes lit up. "Does that mean you agree?"

"Yes," I nodded, even managing a friendly look. "I'll head to the bank tomorrow to transfer the funds. You handle the details, Elena. Pick the best place."

"Now that's my Silas!" Elena gushed, practically glowing.

Maverick smiled too, a bright, fake grin. "I'm glad you saw reason. Jax is lucky to have such a 'generous' father."

Jax huffed and turned away, satisfied for now.

I watched them, my soul hardening into a wall of ice.

Maverick, Elena, and this ungrateful brat.

If you want to play a role, I'll let you play it.

I'll let you play it until the very end.

From that day on, I became the most agreeable husband in the world.

The three million dollars hit Elena's account the following afternoon.

She claimed it was a "family investment account," but I knew she was the only one with the password.

She moved fast. Within a week, she found a luxury penthouse right next to the city's top private academy.

It was a sprawling four-thousand-square-foot unit with a price tag of eight million dollars.

"Silas, this is a rare find! The developer is giving us a discount if we pay a large chunk upfront!"

She showed me the floor plans with feverish excitement. "The three million will cover the down payment, but we need more. Can you take out a business loan? Or maybe liquidate your stocks?"

Her greed was bottomless.

She didn't just want the inheritance; she wanted to bleed me dry.

I pretended to look worried. "The firm's credit is tight right now, and my stocks are locked. Maybe we should start with something smaller?"

"Smaller? No way!" Elena snapped. "If we're doing this, we're doing it right. Our son deserves the best. Silas, don't be a coward. Take a risk for your family!"

Maverick "happened" to be over for dinner and chimed in.

"She's right, Silas. A house like this is an asset for life. Jax could even use it when he gets married. Money can always be earned, but his childhood won't wait."

Jax kicked the side of the sofa, whining. "I want the big house! Liam has a room just for his Legos. I want that too!"

I looked at himDa spoiled child who didn't know the meaning of the word 'no.' I lowered my eyes and sighed. "Fine. I'll figure it out."

"You're the best, Silas!" Elena hugged me, her voice dripping with fake sincerity.

"We appreciate everything you do for us."

The lie made me want to vomit.

Then, she dropped the real bombshell.

"Since it's for his future, let's put the deed in Jax's name only. It'll save us trouble later anyway."

I didn't speak immediately. My fingers curled into fists at my sides.

Maverick nodded quickly. "That's a brilliant idea! It's the perfect gift for the boy. It secures his future no matter what."

I smiled inwardly, keeping my face perfectly passive.

"Sure. Whatever makes you happy. Put it in his name."

Elena and Maverick shared a look of pure ecstasy.

They probably thought the house was officially in the pocket of their secret little family.

What they didn't know was that I was preparing a massive surprise of my own.

In the weeks that followed, they stopped hiding their true colors.

Elena was constantly asking for large sums of cash for "closing costs" and "legal fees." My savings were draining fast.

Maverick was at the house every single day. He acted like he was already the master of the place.

He started criticizing my cooking and complaining that I bought the wrong brand of groceries.

He even started "borrowing" my designer watches and wearing the new clothes I hadn't even tagged yet.

"Silas, this blazer is a bit too young for you. I'm a bit leaner, so it fits me better. Don't let it go to waste."

He adjusted his hair in my mirror while wearing my thousand-dollar suit.

I just nodded. "Take it if you like it."

Jax's attitude toward me grew even worse.

He wouldn't eat or go to bed unless Maverick told him to.

Every sentence out of his mouth started with "Uncle Maverick says" or "Uncle Maverick bought me this."

He threw the limited-edition Lego set I gave him into a corner. "Uncle Maverick is taking me to Disneyland. This toy is trash!"

Elena didn't even bother to hide her flirtation anymore. She'd exchange suggestive glances with Maverick right in front of me.

Once, I came home early and found Maverick walking out of our master bathroom in my bathrobe.

"Oh, hey Silas. My water heater is busted, so I used yours. Hope you don't mind." He wasn't even ashamed.

Elena walked out of the bedroom, frowning. "Silas, why didn't you call before coming home? You startled us."

I stood there, a slow smile spreading across my face. "Sorry. I'll make sure to call next time."

The paperwork for the condo was finalized quickly. Before signing, they needed to confirm the name on the title.

I picked up the pen and wrote "Jax Thorne" in the signature box.

The pen felt heavy, but I didn't hesitate. I was signing away my past.

"Done," I said, handing the contract back.

Elena checked it twice. When she saw the name, she let out a jubilant laugh.

I watched her with a cold, dead stare, promising myself I would make them pay for every single lie.

Finally, the day arrived when all the keys were handed over.

Elena was shaking with joy as she held the deed.

"This is a huge milestone!" she declared. "We're throwing a housewarming party this weekend. We'll invite everyone!"

She looked at Maverick, and I saw the wicked glint in her eye.

I knew exactly what was coming. She couldn't wait any longer.

Saturday arrived, and the luxury penthouse was filled with guests.

Elena was dressed in a sharp white suit, and Maverick wore a champagne-colored tux. They looked like the perfect couple.

Elena moved through the crowd like a queen, while Maverick played the part of the gracious host.

Jax ran around like a little prince, soaking up the praise and the expensive gifts.

After a few rounds of drinks, Elena decided the time was right. She led Maverick and Jax to the center of the living room.

"Everyone, thank you for coming to celebrate our new home... and a very special reunion!"

The crowd clapped and cheered, thinking they were about to hear a toast to a happy family.

"I've been holding onto a secret for many years," Elena began, her voice turning dramatic.

"My marriage to Silas has been a mistake from the very beginning. The man I truly love is Maverick!"

The room went dead silent.

"We've been in love for years, but circumstances kept us apart. Even the fruit of our love had to be raised under another man's name!"

The guests started whispering frantically.

Maverick looked down, wiping away a fake tear from his eye.

"Jax... is actually Maverick's son!" Elena shouted, her voice trembling with mock emotion.

"Today, I'm ending the lie!"

She pointed a finger at me, her face full of venom.

"Silas, I want a divorce! This penthouse belongs to Jax, which means it belongs to me! Since you raised him for a few years, I'll let you keep our old shitty apartment and give you fifty grand. Now get out of my life!"

Maverick stepped forward, his face twisted in a smug grin. "You heard her, Silas. Jax is my boy. I'm the real father. You've had your turn playing house. Now, give me back my family."

Jax didn't understand everything, but he heard the part about Maverick being his "real" dad.

He ran to Maverick's side. "Get out! This is Mom and Uncle Maverick's house! You're not my dad!"

The three of them stood there in the spotlight, looking down at me as if I were garbage.

The party exploded into chaos.

"Elena, you're insane! You cheated and lied for years?"

"Poor Silas... he raised that kid as his own!"

"This is unbelievable. How can she be so heartless?"

"Don't sign anything, Silas! Fight them for the house!"

My relatives and friends were shouting, trying to defend me.

Elena and Maverick looked a bit rattled by the backlash, but they held their ground.

Maverick yelled over the noise, "This is family business! Elena is just following her heart! It's not her fault Silas couldn't keep his wife happy!"

That only made people angrier.

Amidst the screaming and the insults, I slowly raised my head.

"I appreciate the support," I said quietly, yet my voice carried through the room.

Everyone stopped talking and looked at me.

I looked at Elena, then Maverick, and finally Jax.

Then, I spoke clearly.

"I'll sign the papers."

I walked over to the table and scrawled my name on the divorce agreement.

Elena snatched the papers, checking my signature with a frantic, greedy grin.

"I guess... this is it," she said, pulling Maverick close.

"Wait," I said.

My voice stopped them in their tracks.

"Before you three start your 'perfect' new life..."

"I have a gift of my own for you."
