The ER Scandal, Chief’s Divorce
1.
The ER call came in at midnight.
A couple had been caught hooking up in a car and were suffocating.
I rushed to the scene.
But when I arrived, I found my husband of ten years.
Even though he was unconscious, he was still holding his little intern tightly.
On his finger, he was still wearing our wedding ring.
Later, I decided to divorce him and start a new life.
He became the laughingstock of our entire social circle.
"Sienna has already married a young, handsome guy. Some people still think they are the ultimate muse!"
The moment the car door was forced open, the man and woman were exposed to everyone.
I was there as the doctor on duty.
When I saw that familiar face, it felt like I had been hit by a bolt of lightning.
I knew that face better than anyone.
This morning, he had wrapped his arms around my neck and straightened my collar.
His soft voice was still echoing in my ears.
"Sienna, come home early tonight. I'll wait for us to celebrate our tenth wedding anniversary together."
Yes.
Today was the tenth anniversary of my marriage to the boy who fell in love with me at first sight.
I had been so happy, thinking I would go home after this call to kiss him.
I wanted to tell him I wanted to spend many more decades with him.
But now, everything in front of me was like a sharp knife stabbing into my heart.
Blood was everywhere.
It couldn't be him.
My body trembled uncontrollably as I tried to deny the truth.
This was a mistake. This man just looked like my Dexter.
But a second later, the car moved.
The man, still unconscious, held the young girl.
I saw the wedding ring on his finger. It was the final blow.
A colleague pushed me. "Chief Rhodes! Why are you just standing there? Save them!"
I stumbled, my mind going completely blank.
Yes, I should save them.
But my eyes were blurred with hot tears.
Someone pushed me forward, and I lost my balance.
A single tear fell onto the face that now felt like a stranger's.
I was urged to separate them with shaking hands.
I mechanically tried to give Dexter emergency aid.
But as I pulled him away, he reached out again in his semi-conscious state.
He grabbed the woman tightly.
"Skylar Skylar hold me, I'm so cold"
"Skylar I want you!"
"I love you"
It felt like a bucket of ice water had been poured over my head.
I closed my eyes in despair. My chest felt like it was burning.
I stood up abruptly and turned away, my face pale.
My colleague finally noticed something was wrong.
"Chief, you look terrible. Are you feeling okay?"
I forced myself to nod, holding back my emotions.
"Go back and rest. These two cheaters are fine now. The guy is even confessing his love!"
The words felt like needles in my ears.
My throat tightened, but I couldn't say a word.
Like a soldier running from a lost battle, I fled the scene.
I don't even know how I got back to the hospital.
The office was empty at midnight.
I leaned against the wall as tears streamed down my face.
Dexter's "I love you" felt like an arrow through my skull.
Ten years ago, his promises were so vivid.
The way he looked at me back then was so determined.
"Sienna, until I met you, my life was a blank page."
"You gave me sunshine and taught me how to love."
"I will spend my whole life with you. There will never be anyone else in my heart."
"Sienna, I love you."
I love you.
Those three words used to be so precious to me.
2.
Now, in such a disgusting situation, he said them again.
But this time, he said them to someone else.
I didn't dare to cry out loud, so I bit my own arm.
I bit it until the taste of copper filled my mouth.
I realized I was biting my right handDthe hand I used for surgery.
But why didn't I feel the pain?
Why did my heart feel like it was being ripped apart instead?
Dexter, do you know you've practically killed me?
Suddenly, the door opened.
The lights flickered on, and I was caught huddled in the corner.
I covered my head in despair. "Don't look at me! Don't come closer please"
The footsteps came closer anyway, inch by inch.
Every step made me feel more hopeless.
Finally, the person stopped in front of me and knelt down.
He took my bleeding hand, his voice trembling. "Sienna"
I looked up.
It was Lucas. He was my mentor's son and my junior colleague.
We had known each other for almost twenty years.
My parents died when I was young, and my mentor raised me.
Lucas was like family.
Seeing him made my composure crumble completely.
I hugged Lucas and let out a muffled scream.
"Why!"
"Why would he do this to me!"
"Why didn't he just kill me?!"
Hot tears soaked Lucas's shoulder.
He rubbed my back, whispering comfort over and over.
"It's okay, Sienna. It's okay."
"I'm here. I've got you."
After a long time, my strength faded. I knelt on the floor, exhausted.
Lucas helped me to the sofa and grabbed some gauze.
He cleaned my wound with tears in his eyes.
"Sienna, do you know how many people's sight you've saved with these hands?"
"You are the hope of so many patients! How could you hurt yourself like this?"
I closed my eyes, my throat working hard.
"Lucas Dexter he"
"I saw," Lucas interrupted.
"I saw him and that girl being brought into the ER."
"I heard what happened at the scene from the other nurses."
"Sienna, promise me you won't hurt yourself anymore, okay?"
After a long silence, I nodded.
Lucas's eyes were bright red.
"You two have been the golden couple for ten years."
"Whatever happens, I hope you can talk it out. For the sake of how he fought his family to marry you back then."
"Give each other one last chance, okay?"
His words brought back memories from a decade ago.
Back then, I was just a young doctor with no money and no status.
Dexter was my patient, and his surgery was the first one I led.
I saved him from the edge of blindness.
When he opened his eyes, the first person he saw was me.
He said I was like a light in his dark life.
That rich boy fell in love with me instantly.
His parents were totally against us.
They hated that I was an orphan with nothing to my name.
His father even came to the hospital to scream at me in front of everyone.
"You little gold-digger! You think your sweet talk can fool me like it fooled my son?"
3.
"You have nothing! How dare you try to marry into our family?"
"You're dreaming if you think you're good enough for him!"
The whispers around me made me want to vanish.
Just as I was about to break, a figure in a white shirt stepped in front of me.
"Dad! I'm the one who chased Sienna! I'm the one who confessed!"
"Without her, I wouldn't even want to live. She saved my life and she's the only one I'll ever love!"
"How can you talk to her like that?"
"I love her. No matter what you say, I'm going to marry her!"
That summer afternoon, that boy in the white shirt stood against the world for me.
He moved into my heart and stayed there for ten years.
A sharp pain in my hand brought me back to the present.
I looked at our wedding photo on the desk and made a hard choice.
Dexter, for the sake of the boy you used to be
I'll give this marriage one more chance, even if it hurts.
If you are honest with me, if you cut her off.
I'm willing to swallow all this pain.
As long as you still love me.
I drove home like a ghost.
I walked into the house and smelled the roses I bought this morning.
Every anniversary, I ordered flowers early so he would see them when he woke up.
This morning, Dexter held those flowers and smiled at me.
"Honey, will you always be this good to me?"
"Our love will never change, right?"
I had held him tight and whispered a promise.
"Trust me."
I thought ten years meant we had a soul connection.
I couldn't understand how that happiness vanished in a few hours.
The boy who should have been celebrating with me was in the hospital for cheating.
Now, the woman's face became clear in my mind.
She was Skylar, the new intern at his company.
He never talked about office gossip, but a year ago, he came home with flowers.
He looked shocked to see me. "Sienna? Why are you home?"
I usually worked late at the hospital.
I just smiled and said the flowers were pretty.
He looked tense and panicked.
"An intern gave them to me I helped her with a case, so she wanted to thank me"
"Dexter, it's fine. I'm not suspicious," I said.
But he got more nervous. "Really, it's nothing. I only helped her because she looks a bit like you did ten years ago"
That sentence changed everything.
I didn't ask anything else after that.
But Skylar started appearing everywhere in our lives.
She sent flowers, snacks, and even left her jacket in his car.
Once, when he was on a business trip, she answered his phone.
"Dexter is busy. I have his phone. I can pass on a message."
I hung up and swallowed my pride.
I told myself to trust him and our ten-year bond.
I never checked his phone or followed him.
But now
