From Servant To The War General's Luna
I cared for the Alpha heir of the Blackwood Pack for three long years. The first thing he did after his sight was restored was to cast me aside like trash.
You are nothing but a lowly Omega, a servant who happened to be around when I was blind, he spat. Did you really think you could climb your way into my bed permanently?
"When I marry the Governor's daughter next month, I might let you stay," he continued with a sneer. "But only if you get on your knees and serve us tea in front of everyone. Do that, and I might make you my mistress."
I turned away in despair, only to be met with a royal decree from the High King. I was to be mated to the Alpha of the Northern Territory, the legendary War General.
Our wedding day happened to fall on the exact same day the Blackwood heir was celebrating his union.
As my carriage passed the Blackwood estate, the heir stood at the gates with his guests, mocking me.
"I was only joking about the mistress position, but you actually showed up?" he laughed. "How pathetic can you be?"
He began spreading rumors, claiming I had forged the High King's decree just to spite him.
But the moment the War General stepped out and took my hand, the color drained from the heir's face.
Caleb Blackwood dragged me out of the carriage with brutal force. My bridal veil fluttered to the muddy ground, my hair falling in a tangled mess over my shoulders.
A cruel, twisted smirk played on his lips as he looked down at me. "Elara, did you really come here to grovel for Genevieve? Are you that desperate to be my plaything?"
"You really are a piece of work," he spat. "Can you not survive a single day without a man's attention?"
His group of entitled friends burst into laughter, their eyes filled with malice.
"You're just a disgraced orphan, look at yourself," one of them shouted. "Being a mistress to an Alpha heir is more than you deserve. Get on your knees!"
They continued their relentless taunting, their words like venom.
I stared Caleb straight in the eyes, my voice trembling but cold. "What the hell are you talking about?"
Caleb let out a scoff of pure disdain. "Don't think that just because you played nurse for a few years, I owe you anything."
"Serving me was your privilege. If it's money you want, I have plenty of that."
He grabbed a handful of silver coins and hurled them at my face with all his might.
The heavy metal struck my forehead, and I felt the warm sting of blood beginning to trickle down. I curled into a ball on the cold ground, gasping in pain.
This was the man who once whispered sweet promises to me, swearing he would never let me down. How could he have become this heartless monster?
I forced myself to stand, my legs shaking as I glared at him.
"I wouldn't step foot in your house even if you offered me the position of Luna," I hissed. "I'm not here for you. I'm just passing through because I am getting married today!"
"Hahaha!" one of his cronies shrieked with laughter. "Keep lying! What a convenient coincidence!"
Another joined in the mockery, stepping closer to me.
"Exactly! You're just trying to save face. Do you think bringing a cheap carriage here will trick Caleb into taking you back?"
"If you're that lonely, go find old man Miller down the road. He's seventy, but his sons are young. Maybe they'll pass you around once the old man is done, haha!"
Their insults felt like ice water in my veins.
Three years ago, Caleb had collapsed in front of my cabin, bleeding and blind. I took him in when no one else would.
I worked myself to the bone, day and night, just to afford the medicine for his eyes.
I carried him when he couldn't walk and washed his body when he was too weak to move.
He had even stood before my parents' graves and promised to be my mate for life.
But now that his eyes could see again, his heart had gone completely dark.
"Since you broke our bond, we have nothing to do with each other," I said firmly.
"You will regret shaming me like this. My husband is a man of high status, and he will not let this go!"
"Oh, listen to her! Who is this mysterious husband? Tell us so we can go have a laugh."
One of Caleb's friends stepped forward and dumped a bucket of filthy water over my head.
It smelled of rot and salt, stinging my eyes and mouth.
"Stop your bullshit. Here, have a taste of my dirty wash-water instead!"
Just then, a carriage driver rushed over, shielding me from their next move.
"You bunch of bastards!" he roared. "The woman you are insulting is the bride of the Alpha King himself!"
"If you don't stop this, the General will have your heads when he arrives!"
Caleb froze for a second, then doubled over in laughter.
"Her? The Alpha King's bride?"
"She isn't even fit to scrub his boots!"
"The Alpha King is a legend I've looked up to since I was a pup. I won't let you drag his name through the mud!"
Caleb's friends chimed in, throwing more insults my way as the crowd gathered.
Seeing that the ceremony time was approaching, Caleb grabbed my arm and started dragging me toward his estate.
I fought back, clawing at his hand, but his Alpha strength was too much for me.
We reached the main hall, where his fianc, Genevieve, was waiting.
She saw my tattered but expensive wedding dress, and a flash of pure jealousy crossed her eyes.
"Genevieve, this woman claims she came here to kneel and serve you tea today," Caleb said, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
He pulled Genevieve into his arms, kissing her temple while looking at me like I was dirt.
"She actually thought wearing a white dress and hiring a carriage would make me take her in as a mistress. Truly delusional."
Genevieve gave me a look of pure disgust and snorted.
"That was just Caleb being polite. Even if you crawled on your belly, I would never let a stray like you inside these walls."
Caleb nodded, looking down his nose at me.
"Of course. She isn't even good enough to wash my feet. She's probably just man-crazy and looking for a handout."
The friends around them began to cheer and agree.
"She's just obsessed with Caleb's status. She won't stop stalking him."
I stared at Genevieve, but my heart stopped when I saw the bracelet on her wrist.
It was my mother's heirloom, the only thing I had left of my family, and the token I had given Caleb when we pledged ourselves to each other.
I fought back tears of rage as I looked at him.
"That bracelet on her wrist... it belongs to my mother. Since you broke our promise, give it back!"
Caleb frowned, reaching for Genevieve's hand as if to take it.
But Genevieve snatched it off herself and held it up, mocking me.
"This piece of junk? You really think taking care of Caleb for a few days gives you the right to act like a noble?"
"You want it? Fine. Take it and get out!"
I reached out to catch it, but she intentionally threw it against the stone floor.
It shattered into a dozen pieces at my feet.
My breath hitched as I stared at the fragments. It was the last memory of my parents, and they had destroyed it for fun.
"Lady Genevieve, this woman almost made a fool of you today. Letting her go is too easy," one of the guys whispered.
"She's too kind to hurt you herself, so we'll do it for her. We need to teach you a lesson so you stop clinging to Caleb like a leech."
Caleb took Genevieve's hand and looked at me with cold, dead eyes.
"She did promise to kneel and serve tea, after all. We can't let her break her word."
One of the men grabbed a filthy, grease-stained rag and threw it in my face, and the room erupted in laughter.
I couldn't take it anymore. I lunged forward, grabbing a wooden bucket and swinging it at his head.
"Get the hell away from me! I am marrying Alaric Nightshade today, not a coward like Caleb!"
The man I hit turned red with rage and kicked me squarely in the stomach, sending me flying back.
"You arrogant bitch! The Alpha King is marrying a high-born lady from a noble pack, not a disgraced Omega like you!"
"It's been this long and he hasn't come for you. You're a liar!"
Genevieve giggled, her eyes full of contempt.
"Look at her. She can't get into the Blackwood pack, so she invents a fantasy husband. How shameful."
"Don't worry, Genevieve. We're going to give her exactly what she deserves."
The man grabbed me by my hair and dragged me back toward the front gates.
He pointed at my dress and screamed at the crowd.
"She wore this to try and embarrass the new Luna! We can't let her get away with this!"
Caleb stepped out and gave the order.
"Destroy that dress. I don't want anyone thinking I would ever settle for someone as low as her."
Genevieve leaned into him, purring. "I knew you loved me most."
I looked at Caleb's cold face, and it felt like my heart was being shredded.
I remembered the winter when we had no food and no medicine.
I gave him every bite of my bread, starving myself so he could regain his strength.
And now, just because I was passing by his house on my wedding day, he was humiliating me in front of the whole town.
He had forgotten every single thing I did for him over those three years.
"You're going to pay for this, you worthless bitch!"
The man growled, raising his hand to strike me again.
"What are you doing? Let me go!"
I screamed at the top of my lungs, fighting with everything I had left.
The carriage driver tried to help, but Caleb's men were too many. They shoved him aside like he was nothing.
They didn't just hit me; they called for buckets of foul-smelling swamp mud.
They poured it over my head, soaking my hair and my white dress until I looked like a monster from the gutters.
A crowd of townspeople had gathered to watch the spectacle.
One of Caleb's friends shouted to the onlookers.
"Look at this shameless woman! She tried to seduce the Alpha heir on his wedding day!"
"She knew he was getting married, but she showed up in a wedding dress, hoping he'd make her his mistress."
"If you have any rotten eggs or trash, throw them at her! I'll pay you ten times what they're worth!"
The crowd, eager for drama and easy money, began pelting me with garbage.
The driver tried to cover me with his own body, shouting over the noise.
"She is the Alpha King's wife! You are all going to die for this!"
"Stop lying! If the Alpha King were coming, we'd hear the drums by now!"
Caleb's friends ripped me away from the driver and poured another bucket of filth over me.
"This is what happens to homewreckers!" they screamed.
Someone in the crowd threw a stone, and it caught me right on the temple.
Blood began to mix with the mud, blurring my vision.
Rage burned in my chest, and I screamed at them.
"I am not a disgraced orphan! The High King cleared my family name and signed the decree himself!"
"When he gets here, he will wipe every one of you off the map!"
The mention of the High King's decree made the friends hesitate for a second.
Caleb walked up, staring down at me. "You claim there's a decree? Where is it?"
I choked on my words. The document was safe at my house; I hadn't carried it with me in the carriage.
Caleb saw my silence and smirked. "Elara, forging a royal decree is a death sentence. You've really done it now."
I couldn't believe his cruelty. "I didn't forge anything! If you don't believe me, come to my home and see for yourself!"
I had only found out yesterday that my father's name had been cleared and that the Alpha King had requested my hand.
After Caleb dumped me, I was so broken that I accepted the match immediately.
Caleb didn't want to hear it. He turned to his guards.
"This woman is a criminal who insulted the High King. I'll deal with her myself."
He gave them a signal, and they dragged me down the street toward the edge of the territory, near a sleazy tavern.
The madam of the local brothel came out, smiling at Caleb with fake sweetness.
"What brings the Alpha heir to my humble door today?"
Caleb kicked me toward her feet.
"This criminal needs to learn her place. I'm giving her to you. Break her spirit."
"Clean her up and put her to work tonight. Let every lowlife in town have a turn so she knows exactly what she's worth."
"Caleb, you wouldn't dare! When Alaric Nightshade finds out, he will tear this pack apart!"
I shook my head, my voice raw with fury.
The madam called over her goons to drag me inside.
I fought like a wild animal, but they were too strong.
"She's a pretty one," the madam laughed. "I'll take her."
Just as they were about to throw me into a cell and lock the heavy iron doors.
A thunderous roar echoed through the street.
"Where the hell are you taking my wife?"
